Tasco Luminova 40076420 Telescope

I purchased this telescope from a major regional sporting goods store for $50 (new in unopened box). The component quality is poor. The rise adjustment pivot block is designed incorrectly and does not provide a stable pivot point. The same hex head screw that holds the pivot in place also cinches the supporting rod and a hand adjustable head is not provided. The sight scope mount is also designed incorrectly and does not allow stable alignment. Only three screws hold the alignment sight in place and a forward pivot ring is not provided. The tripod provides a broad, stable base, and uses a shelf to hold the legs in position. The shelf also serves to hold spare optics. However, no radial adjustment is provided. The assembly instructions were good enough for me, but perhaps not the typical Dad who doesn't have an engineering degree.

Good for looking at the moon, but not planets or stars. The photos on the box are misleading as to the performance of the unit.
