Recommended it?
Yes
Bought for me as a Christmas present two years ago, this was my 1st scope. As such it could have broken me or gave me the spark to enjoy the night sky.
Generally Tasco scopes do not receive good reviews, However I cannot be critical of this product for several
reasons. First the price was very good. Next the basic setup concerning the optics and EQ stand are of fine quality. Of course the included eyepieces, 3X barlow and 6 X 24 finder scope are of little use, but that is the case on many telescope purchases and one knows this going in.
I upgraded the eyepieces and the finders scope, added a cheap DC motor and now have a very good 114mm reflector. It provides me with very clear views of the planets, the moon, many star clusters and brighter deep space objects. It reaches its limit when observing galaxies and other deep space objects, but that is the case of a 114mm reflector.
In all it is of fine quality and I can easily recommend it as a beginner or a grab and go scope.
