The Bottom Line:
Don't look at the low price. This unit is outstanding and stands with the best.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
This is a great tuner, especially considering that it sells for $150. Today, the market is slim for FM Tuners. Most are in the range of $150-$400, unless you want to buy a Fanfare or Magnum DynaLab for $1500. I'm not sure the incremental improvement in sound is worth the price for these deluxe models. Right out of the box, this tuner looks and feels solid. It's big and well made with a solid aluminum faceplate and all metal case. The features are great and the operation is intuitive. An especially nice feature is the direct entry tuning. Also of note are the 60 presets and remote control. All functions on the remote are duplicated on the tuner face as well (handy). I purchased this tuner because my Adcom 555II stopped working and it took several months to find someone who could fix it. In the meantime, I picked up the Teac as an interim solution. Now that my Adcom is back from repair, I'm going to continue using the Teac because it sounds better and has more features. This unit is made in Taiwan, a source for better audio components. In fact, it has the same look as the Adcom. Maybe it was made in the same factory.
HOW DOES IT WORK
In short, this tuner is outstanding. This unit is hooked up to an Adcom 564 Pre-Amp and Adcom 555II Power Amp as well as Klipsch tower speakers. Sensitivity is excellent and operation is quiet, even on some of the weaker stations. (I'm using a roof-top TV antenna in a suburban location.) Selectivity is outstanding as well. No interference from adjacent stations. However, in the final analysis, the reason I like this tuner is that it sounds great. Bass is solid and defined and mid-range and treble are clear and clean. It has great stereo depth as well. I've had lots of equipment over the years and I know a good sound when I hear it. This unit has good sound.
