Technics SL-PD9

Pros Optical Digital Output, CD-R/RW , DTS ready
Cons Cheaply Made, Hard To Use
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Not Recommended. Spend a few extra bucks on a quality unit.
After Twelve years of bliss my Sony CD Player went to heaven. I decided to by a new CD player. Usually I read reviews on the subject, but this time I just went to my local Wiz and bought a unit. Stupid me! thinking all CD
players are created equal I bought this Technics CD player.
It was a floor model, and very inexpensive. Well Like I was taught as a kid "you get what you pay for. Since I have expensive audio equipment you tend to think of a simple CD player as the weakest link. "well don't. The CD player is just as important as the latest DVD player. The features are there but the quality isn't. Really cheaply made, this CD player does't offer much. Since this is a review I will tell you what it does offer. The Pros are it does have Optical Digital output for the best audio performance, this unit can also play CD-R/RW. It also has the basics like program mode, repeat play and toggle. It also offers a spiral mode. However the way the carousel is set up is very confusing. It tends to go in all directions and you never know what disc your on. Another problem is that it's very sensitive, even the slightest scratch on the CD will make the music stick. I can't ever play a CD from beginning to end without some kind of problem. I do take special care of my CD audio disks. But the biggest problem is when two or more disks are in the unit you have a hard time knowing which one to play. It is very confusing. When you think you are on disc one you are actually disc four. When removing a disc always, the wrong disc is removed. Hence if you are playing disc four and push the inject button disc one will appear, and to get to disc four you have to press skip disc, until the proper disc is removable. "What an engineering blunder. The bottom line is for a few extra bucks buy a good quality machine.
