The TiVo R54080 80-hour DVR is a pretty good machine for recording digital cable. We bought one a few months ago, and it worked really well for us. Best way to watch TV (for me anyway)
I got this unit for Christmas and was using it the next day without any problems. The unit easily connects audio, left and right to your stereo and video output to your TV. Nice...unless you have HDTV
Prior to TiVo I was using the Comcast digital cable box with built in HDTV tuner. Having received the TiVo box for Christmas, I went to set it up only to realize that the Series 2 TiVo box doesn't support HDTV. Their website states :

I couldn't write a title with the exact sound the Tivo makes, but it makes a cool sound when you use the DVR feature.
