Tivolution? Yep, they converted me.

Pros Easy use, new features, TV around your schedule, not your schedule around TV
Cons Need a battery-backup and network adapter. CS in India
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Solid unit with good features and easy use. Advertisers hate it because you can fast-forward through commercials. Allows you to do what you want when you want.
When I first saw Tivo on the market it was over 5 years ago and in infomercial. They touted the benefits of Tivo, etc and I thought it was a good idea, but to pay for information that was free? Why, oh why would I want to do that?

Almost 16 months ago I made the leap of faith an bought a Tivo, pay the $12 for service and said to myself, we'll see. The main reason for this unit was my schedule was so varied that I was missing all of my favorite programs, which would upset me when I would miss the season premier or finale of a show (which happened too often).

Setup of the Tivo is easy (it required a telephone land line for the first time to update software to the most current version, but i'm told that the new units come with the broadband software installed negating the need for a land line) The unit walked me through the setup and downloaded the listings. A note that the first download is somewhat lengthy and it takes 8 hours for it to sort through all the listings of your cable to determine where everything is at. But once it's sorted out what's on it keeps up without any delay through a daily update call or broadband connection.

I started with requesting what they call a "season pass" (IE: find me all of these shows and record them). I asked for "star trek" (yeah I know, "techno geek") anyway I only knew of 1 or 2 episodes that were on. The next day coming home expecting to find my 2 episodes I found 7, it found showings at all hours that I didn't know were there. Also after a little while it started automatically recording shows based on what I asked it to record.

After the first month I was hooked. I could order all of my favorite shows and not worry if I was home to see them. The 80 hr unit (really 40-60 for decent clarity on a 25" screen) means I come home to whatever I want to see. The unit works with my cable box to change the channel to whatever I want to record.

*A note here is that you will need to get a battery backup to connect the cable box and Tivo to in case the power in your area has frequent brown or blackouts for short periods of time. This will allow the time to hum along an the cable box to be on the correct channel during the short brown/blackout.*

Tivo's also come with a mr peanut shaped remote control which fits nicely in your hand. Will control your tv and stereo volume (if you have a surround sound system like me)

Tivo recently has added the ability to get movie listings if your tivo is connected through broadband as well as web music and traffic reports in metro areas. If you still use the regular phone line these aren't available.

Unfortunately tech support like most computer and electronics companies is out of India. However, Tivo does have an online forum where other Tivo users can usually point you in the right direction to answer most questions.
