Tom Tom to the rescue
Pros
Very accurate and easy to understand both visually and audibly.
Cons
Sensitive to shock and causes system to lock up.
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Excellent maps and easy to understand as long as you read the manual or get familiar with it.
The Tom Tom 910 is a very good GPS with a good 3D perspective for following the map. The voice prompts are accurate to the point of what lane to be in for multiple highway changes.
The interface is simple and easy to learn, you just have to spend about 30 minutes with it to be familar or (here is a novel idea) read the manual.
This unit has an internal battery that lasts 4 hours. (NOTE: the manual warns against leaving the unit in a hot vehicle as it may damage the internal battery)
Maps of the entire continental U.S.
Maps of Canada.
Maps of Puerto Rico.
Maps of Eastern Europe.
Internal hard drive for storage. (usually music)
My brother borrows it when he travels to europe for work and loves it. He forgot to take it once and was stuck with the Garmin that was in the rental car. I could hear him cursing that gps all the way back here in the states. A mistake that he will not soon make again.
Other features this unit has is ipod control since it can be plugged into the ipod and displays all the ipod features. It pauses the music when voice prompts you to change directions.
It has bluetooth for connections to cellphones and a microphone. It also pauses the music when you are receiving a call for the duration of the call.
Maps are inexpensive compared to Magellan or Garmin.
The only two problems with it is the internal hard drive that contains the OS and maps is sensitive to shock and does not work well on a motorcycle, so use a GPS that is solid state. (memory card)
The second is the reset button is extremely small (too small for a paperclip wire to fit) and hard to locate ( you have to remove the unit from the mounting bracket).
