The Bottom Line:
The TomTom GO GPS appears to be a perfect, reliable companion for any car wherever you may be going!
I bought the TomTom 300 GPS unit to replace my older garmin palm/gps since it was giving me problems, was unreliable, and I didn't use palm OS part of it.
It was time for a more simplified solution and the TomTom line looked promising and it appears to be holding true. Right out of the box, the tomtom was practically ready to go after a few taps for the time and home location. I love that maps and POI (points of interest) of the whole USA are loaded right onto the 1GB memory card. No more loading little sections of the USA onto a unit!
The unit was so easy to get used to, every icon is self explanatory, I didn't need to refer to the manual at all. The screen is clear and colorful, but can be a little hard to see in direct sunlight. Hasn't bothered me that much yet.
Things I like: I love the 3D view as you are driving - this helps a lot to comprehend certain turns, forks in the road and traffic circles! Maps of every state in the USA are loaded onto one massive, but tiny memory card (the size of a postage stamp) including millions of POI's. Other things I like: you are able to store favorite places, navigating home or to a stored favorite place is only 2 taps away, the user interface is very easy to understand, built-in powerful, clear, loud speaker in the unit, the unit adapts volume to your driving speed (as an option), built in GPS antenna, large keyboard and buttons to input information (3 diff keyboard formats, including QWERTY), different voices to choose from, capable of live traffic information and downloadable extras via bluetooth/internet capable phones.
Things I feel can be improved upon: screen brightness for really bright days, option to search all points of interest by name without *having* to choose a category before finding it, models with slightly bigger screens, and being able to just look at a route's location without calculating it first.
Will update soon...
