Avoid Tom Tom for long distance travel

None, even the display is crowded and busy.
Cons
The long distance navigation is worse than the display. Get a smart phone!

The TomTom built into my vehicle is worse than useless for long distance navigation, as its speed assumptions, apparently fixed and not user controlled, are not realistic. While the interstate assumption seems fine, major highways always seem to use a 35 mile per hour assumption. As a result there is an over bias in favor of interstates.Going from Paducah Kentucky to Sedona Arizona, Tom Tom wanted me to go northwest to St Louis then Southwest through Missouri, rather than the direct route west on US60. Its route was several hours longer than my manual intuition to go west, only. Similary this past trip from Provo Utah to Sedona it routed me on I15 through Las Vegas rather than surface highways. I followed the Google Maps route on my phone and got home two hours quicker than the Tom Tom route estimated, six versus eight hours.
