A great HDTV

Pros Great HD display, better than average SD picture quality, 3 HDMI inputs, super price.
Cons No backlit buttons on remote, only one preference setting, no cablecard support (only minor annoyances).
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This is an excellent choice - as good or better than the competition (most of which cost far more).
This is one super television. Three HDMI inputs, ability to accept 1080p signals (although they are converted to the native 720p for display), wonderful deep blacks (always a challenge for LCD displays), and energy-star compliant. These are just a few of the highlights for this television. A very pleasing cabinet (dark, glossy black) also is a nice upgrade from previous Toshiba models which had light-gray cabinets.

Additional nice features:

- supports lip-sync (an HDMI 1.3a feature)
- 12-bit image processing (results in more color depth -- which mean more subtle gradations in color are presented. If you've ever been annoyed by an LCD display of, say, a blue sky in which you could see bands of different colors rather than a smooth transition, you were seeing the results of insufficient color depth. You don't have to worry about this with this TV.)
- ability to display 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p signals (although all are transformed to the native 720p mode of the set. This means that, if you buy a new HD-DVD or Blu-Ray DVD player, your set will be able to accept the 1080p signal and use internal circuitry that is optimized for the set to do the translation to 720p.
- sleep timer
- game mode
- much better than average display of standard-definition signals compared to other LCD panels
- a lot of control over picture settings --much more than other sets
- "Native" mode for NO OVERSCAN! In fact, there are a lot of really useful display size modes, including a special setting for 4:3 HD channels and a really useful 4:3 stretch mode that produces a much nicer picture than most stretch modes I've seen
- Speakers are on the bottom of the screen (not the sides like on more other sets). This means the overall set is less wide and can fit in places that others won't. This can be important if, like me, you are trying to get the largest screen you can and yet get it to fit in an existing entertainment center or armoire.

Some people are spending extra to buy 1080p sets. There is no reason to do this for a set of this size. The 720p picture quality is wonderful - save your money.

What do I NOT like about this set? Not much. But some annoyances are:

- you can only save one "preferance" mode for display settings
- no backlit keys on the remote control (the previous model, the 37HL95 did have these)
- a bit slow when changing channels - especially if you are using native mode from your source and the set has to adjust (say from 480i to 1080i). But this is quite common on all HD sets.

Other folks may be upset that the 37HL67 does not support cablecards. This does not effect me, but Toshiba's earlier model (the 37HL95) did support cablecards.
