40H80 40 in . Trouble right out of the box

Pros Great picture. Good sound for regular TV viewing. Quite slim for a Projection TV
Cons Shuts off by itself right out of the box! (new)
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  You can find better
I bought this TV because Toshiba has never let me down before. However, this set has problems and they are the same with most of the reviews I have read on here and also with other sites. And by the way, this is my first review and may I also say that this is a great way to look for problems and hear what everyone else has to say before *I* spend my hard earned cash!

This HDTV ready set is from Best Buy. They offered the extended warrantee for somewhere around $300. I am already spending $2,100+ and now they want me to spend another 300? It's a Toshiba, so I declined. I guess I made a mistake.
Right out of the box it made a cracking sound and the screen went from wide screen to square.(OK after about 3 hours of use) I took the remote and put it back in wide screen.

About 7-10 days later, when I turned it on it would make a clicking sound (relay) and come on in standard screen so I would have to reset it back to wide screen.
At this point I called Toshiba, and they sent me to Best Buy. I must admit that Best Buy did take on the issue right away and sent someone out to look at the set for free. The bad part is it didn't get fixed. The tech replaced some diodes and the relay but that didn't help.

I think it is a power supply problem and has nothing to do with the relay itself. The relay is just doing what it is told by the power supply. (I am NOT a repair man)! The set is 2 years old now and still doesn't work all the time. Toshiba SUPPOSEDLY doesn't know what is wrong with the set, which is strange to me since most people that write a review mention the same problem. I am lead to believe that Toshiba is dodging its customers on this one. SHAME SHAME!

Now I am at the point where the Best Buy Tech did talk to other techs' and they have had that problem before (obviously). He (the tech) is going to put a capacitor in the (reset line of the micro) whatever that means, and I am told by the Best Buy Tech that this should fix the problem. The set is still in the middle of my living room because I don't even watch it anymore (frustrating) I may just let you know how this all works out in the end. As for now? No more Toshiba if they are not going to lift a finger to fix their mistakes.

UPDATE: The Best Buy Tech installed a capacitor in the reset line of the macro of this set, and that indeed did fix the problem.
(Shutting off by itself and resetting to 4:3 screen) That was 3 years ago. I am now happy with the set and give it 3.5 stars. I believe it is a manufacture defect and Toshiba should have stepped in to help fix the problem.
