The Bottom Line:
This is a great TV. Beautiful HDTV and Standard TV picture, wonderful features, good price. This is one sweet television. Why wouldn't you want it?
It was about superball time last year and I thought I needed a little upgrade for my Samsung 27" CRT. I walked into my local electronics store and had an intention of getting a 50" Sony CRT projection TV with JVC surround sound for $1,399. It seemed like a good price for the money, and I wasn't really sure if I wanted to spend a lot for a "TV". Well it looked good in the ad, so it set off. Well we got to the sony and the picture was terrible. They didn't even have HDTV set up on it and it was pretty big and ugly. I then searched the store for a replacement. My budget was $1,500 firm. I set off to look for set when I noticed the bright light, oh it was only the toshiba. It had awesome pictured compared to the other 720's and even the 1080p tv's. The only cache price, $1,995. It was a little steep, but I could not get over the picture. Though there was other tv's there I seemed to be attached to this one. OK I decided I only live once and purchased the TV. Our local electronic store has pretty good values and a cheap 4 year warranty ($115.00) Best Buy charges $400.00 for the same warranty. My total came out to be $2,149, I thought that was ok even with the warranty. That whole night I was excited about that TV just thinking about the picture.
So the next morning I pulled out the old Suburban and went to pick up my beauty. We went to the store's warehouse, and received the huge toshiba box. I was anxious to get home so I stepped on the pedal, went to the left lane, and cruised on home. After carrying the box through the front of the house I noticed this TV was EXTREMELY light. It only weighed about 60 pounds and was big for it size. I unwrapped the box on the unit and it looked HUGE in my living room. When you look at the TV at the store it looks good sized, when you bring it home it looks H-U-G-E! That may just be me coming from a 27" TV.
After buying this tv we subscribed to Charter HDTV. We get a fair amount of channels (10-12 HDTV). They all look really good on this tv. The picture is absolutely beautiful, it's clear and the color is excellent. We also get standard tv that looks really good. It's not as good as HDTV, but it's not bad. It actually really good. Most people think that because of the size it's not going to look good but it really does! Thats one thing that I was really surprised with when this tv came home, BOY DOES REGULAR CABLE LOOK GOOD!
The cable-card works good, if I had to use it or the box I think I would rather go back to the box. The picture comes in clear and it's easy to use, but you don't get the cable box's guides. I've just been to lazy to call charter up and change it.
DVD picture is wonderful. I use an old Toshiba DVD player to play my video with component video cords. It looks almost like HDTV. I haven't had the chance to use an up-convert dvd player yet. The monsters in monsters inc. look real!
The interactive menus are great, they're easy to use and are somewhat attractive.
I love the picture viewer on the tv. It's great to come home from an outing and view our digital photos. It's great that it accepts so many different kinds.(Memory Stick, SD, MMC, Compact Flash, XD)
There is a W-I-D-E variety of inputs, 2 HDMI, 2 Component, 3 Regular Video, 3 S-Video. There is also a digital video out.
This TV has a good remote, it has lots of universal codes for units like receivers, dvr's, and many other units.
Another good thing about this TV is that it's DLP. You can change the bulb when the tv dies. This is one of the main reasons I purchased a DLP instead of a plasma or lcd. I've heard the bulbs are expensive but look at the price compared to a whole new tv!
PROS
-Wonderful HDTV & Standard TV picture
-Lots of inputs
-Memory Card Picture Gallery
-Great Menu's
-2 HDMI
-Cable-card
Cons
-price (somewhat high compared to other brands)
-remote (has a noisy buzzing when the light is on)
Overall I recommend this tv to anyone. My friend has a JVC Crystal over Silicone HDTV tv and this blows his out of the water. The picture is much more clearer on standard tv and HDTV.
You go toshiba you've got it with this model!
