Toshiba 50H82
Pros
Picture quality, ratio of cabinet size to screen size.
Cons
Audio noise is a huge design flaw that is poorly, if at all, addressed
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Look for a unit with a better audio design. The picture is tough to beat in this price range though.
No sense repeating the excellent review above...
I agree with all points.
The electrical engineer responsible for releasing the design of the audio section of this superb VIDEO monitor should work at Kmart.
The ever-present audio "white" noise (aka hissing) is EXTREMELY annoying...
Even when the line level audio from an external system is fed through the TV (and back out of the "variable-audio-out" connectors) so that the volume is controlled by the TV [internal speakers set to "OFF"], there is a noticeable "vertical refresh rate" audio noise [59 Hz mixed with white noise].
Shabby audio for people with a 6 KHz detection cutoff...
The convergence adjustment with more points of adjustment than present in the setup available to the end-user was done by a factory authorized service technician who came out to investigate the audio "hissing". This makes for a noticeable improvement in what appears to be "poor focus" on certain portions of the screen. This adjustment is also written permanently to EEPROM. Any user adjustments to convergence are lost on loss-of-power to the unit.
Lame audio, great video...
Only time will determine reliability.
