UPDATED: Toshiba Projection TV - BEWARE!

Pros During the short time it actually worked..Nice picture. But see rest of review.
Cons BEWARE! Short life span. Expensive Repairs. Replacement parts unavailable. Garbage before even paid off.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  BEWARE. Do not buy. Short life and replacement parts UNAVAILABLE. Toshiba can't service what it sells!! Above scores don't matter if TV doesn't work!
I was really excited when I bought this Toshiba HD DLP Projection TV less than two years ago. Great picture, great colors, and it was my first large screen TV. However, after a while the fan noise started to be noticeable - even when the TV was off for a while. Then, before two years had passed, it developed a loud hum. Toshiba email Customer Service was no help (Try unplugging and plugging it back in!) but they at least responded to my email. Their 800 number directed me to a Toshiba Authorized Repair Center. I ended up having to have the shop come and pick it up for repair with an estimate to fix it to be about $750 plus $100 for pick-up and drop off. I have not gotten the final bill yet but I'm annoyed enough to write this review and suggest people look elsewhere when considering a large screen TV. Apparently, on Toshiba Projection TVs, much of the important parts are contained in an "Optic Block" and if one part isn't functioning properly, the entire piece needs to be replaced!

Given today's prices (12/2007) for flat panel TVs, I'd say forget about "projection" and Toshiba quality/product life was very disappointing....look elsewhere.

12-06-2007 UPDATE - I spoke with the authorized Toshiba Repair Shop today and was advised that the part is on back order and that Toshiba could not tell them when it would be in. They said 400 of these parts have been on back-order since AUGUST!!! This should give you an idea as to how bad their quality is. Rather than wait indefinitely and pay the $750 in repairs, I told the shop to send the unit back home to me. I'm going to buy something else and burn this Toshiba unit. Don't make the same mistake - DON'T BUY TOSHIBA PROJECTION TV.
