The Bottom Line:
Fantastic picture, 2-3 pulldown for great DVD picture quality, 2 HD inputs, 9 point convergence adjustment and a good price.
After agonizing between Hatachi, Sony, Panasonic, Pioneer, RCA, Samsung and some Front Projection HDTV options, I settled on the Toshiba.
First off, the front projectors use bulbs costing upward to $500 and their lamp life was around 1000 hours before the bulb was at ? brightness; a little too pricey for me.
Of the rear-projection TVs, I think I could have been happy with any of them. Although small things differentiated the different models. The Hatachis? had great pictures, although their prices rang up closer to the $5000 mark. The Pioneers are considered by many to be the leader in rear-projection, and they too were somewhat pricey for me; after looking at their picture quality, I just couldn?t see any reason to spend more for it. While checking out the RCA models, 3 out of the 4 that I saw in various stores just weren?t working; I took this to be a bad omen.
Many of the units only had only one set of HD inputs; not enough if you plan on adding a external tuner and a progressive scan DVD player.
The bottom line, for $2700, the Toshiba is great value, has the extra inputs, produces a great picture, and allows you to adjust the convergence from 9 different points on the screen (a nice feature for rear-projection units)
