Best TV I've ever owned
Pros
Beautiful picture, 2 sets of Component inputs, POP mode (see review for explanation)
Cons
No built in HDTV decoder, Expensive
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Awesome! If you can afford an HDTV, this is one of the best I've seen. I'm completely satisfied with this product
I bought this TV primarily for watching DVD's and I couldn't be happier. The picture quality is gorgeous and at 57", it's larger than life. Sound quality is good also but for the real experience, you'll want to hook it up to a surround sound system.
Some of the cooler features:
POP mode which does a split screen allowing you to view two things at once. I've used it for:
Watching a TV show while still having the football game on so I can glance over and check the score or
Watching TV on one side while my roommates play Playstation on the other!
It's sounds like it might be odd but since the TV is so large, each side is equivalent to about a 27" TV so it's not uncomfortable to watch in this mode at all.
Preview mode - lets you watch a program on the left side while you preview 9 other channels on the right side
It's widescreen! so anamorphic DVD movies play in their original aspect ratio without huge black bars.
Note: This applies to most films that have been transfered in 16:9 and optimized for widescreen TVs. Some movies (such as The Matrix, and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) are shot in a wider (2.35:1) aspect ratio and will still have black bars on top and bottom. They will, however, be significantly smaller than on a regular TV
Regular cable TV looks great and there's options for viewing it in regular "square" format or stretching it to fit the wider screen. Hook up an HDTV box with DirectTV and the picture is unbelievably clear... like a DVD.
