The Bottom Line:
Good choice whether you intend to go with a High Definition converter or not. The pictures are great either way. Hard to beat for the price.
After comparing several 53 - 57 inch widescreens, I opted for the Toshiba 57H81. Good price and the picture looked good even in the stores awful viewing conditions. I have been thrilled with this set. The High Definition picture is knock you socks off good (with Toshiba set top HD converter box). Progressive scan DVD's are amazing on this set. Satellite input is impressive. The set was ready to go ten minutes after it was out of the box. Easy one button convergence control and a logically designed remote for the many options offered help a lot. Have had the set about one month now and would recommend without reservation. Haven't watched this much TV in years!
