The Bottom Line:
You will have zero regrets. Best bang for the buck!
I used to own a Sony 53XBR45 rear view projection which would probably stand up well versus the nonhigh definition sets, but it pales in comparison to this baby. I paid $2,430 delivered with white glove service, and I have zero regrets. For technical aspects please read the other person's review, because there is no need for duplication. You will not miss the old 4:3 picture setup, and make sure to adjust the picture to your liking, and which theater mode you want to watch in. If you are watching in high definition then you should still adjust the picture. In reviewing the manual I didn't see any warnings about using video games or prolonged viewings of programs with ticker tapes like on CNBC. Be careful with both and either regularly change the channel and don't leave games in pause. You don't want to chance picture burn. This TV has 3D sound and it does a pretty good job if you don't want to use your home theater sound system. The remote lacks if you are going to use it as a universal remote which is stupid considering viewers at some point will need a high definition decoder. I bought my set online, but went to a local store to view it against others, and while the new Sony XBR might have looked better with their presentation I would stick with this set. First of all stores doctor the settings to steer you toward certain models, and the price differential even with adding a high definition decoder is astronomical. If you want bang for the dollar then this is the set, and make sure to get white glove delivery unless you have some real muscle to bring this bad boy into the house in a professional manner. It is one big hombre. A second reason for white glove is that if you drop it you will have serious problems with nobody to compensate you for the damages. Good luck on your quest for the perfect home theater!
P.S. - The front panel does have S-Video and RCA Audio and Video inputs.
