Great picture and features but bad bulb life long term
Pros
Best non 120hz picture I've seen
Cons
Consistently only get 11 months from bulbs.
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
I just can't recommend a product to someone when the manufacture will not stand behind it.
If you must buy this TV be sure to get an extended warranty that covers bulb replacements (plural). Usually extended warranties are a severe waste of money but DLPs and this TV in particular have bulb issues.
I purchased my TV in May 06. The bulb burned out in April 07. Replaced bulb under warranty. Today (March 08), the bulb blows out once again and Toshiba will not apply their bad bulb induced extended warranty to my unit.
The bulb has blow out after 11 months twice now. This looks to be the norm and not just a series of faulty bulbs.
I use the TV 4-5 hrs a day and should get 4-5 yrs from a bulb based on the manual. Complaining about the ACTUAL very limited life of the bulb resulted in a "Well, that is an average [in the manual]." response from the "support" rep. I told the rep that I will never buy another Toshiba product again. And I won't.
A new bulb can be had for about $250 on the internet should you need to stock up. Fortunately, I do have an extended warranty covering at least one bulb.
Now why must you feel like you must buy this TV? Because it is AWESOME otherwise. The TV guide is great and the features are abundant. The size is compact in that the speakers are under the screen and not too big. I use a sound system so I can't say if sound suffers. The picture is truly amazing. This was one of the first 1080p sets when I bought it. It is still among the best when considering picture. The two HDMI ports should have some support for the weight of the cable as it looks like the connection bears all the weight. This will likely cause failure in the future.
