Toshiba 65HDX82

Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Excellent set. Highly Recommended.
After months of researching every big screen HDTV on the market I decided on going with Toshiba. Toshiba contantly got top ratings in reviews often 2nd only to the Pioneer Elite, which costs x2 as much. I only paid $2300 incluing delivery for the set, which was a great value compared to Sony's, Hitachi's, and Pana's that were $500 to $1000 more for the similar quality/features.

The set has a great anti-glare shield that really helps in bright light. Other TV's I saw, especially Panasonic, were almost like mirrors in reflecting light. Also, the HDX series uses improved CRT's with lower dot pitch and longer life span then most older models out there.

Standard TV looks decent, though not as good as on a normal tube TV. The 3 strentch modes for 4:3 content do a good job of filling the 16:9 screen with too much distortion.

DVD's, expecially true widescreen anamorphic DVD's, look amazing. Sitting in a dark room with such a large set is almost like being in a movie theatre.

Definately get the largest set your room can accomidate. Remember that TV's are measured diagnally, so a 16:9 tv is not as tall as the "same" size 4:3 tv, even though 16:9 has 25% move "tv" viewing area.
