The Bottom Line:
Buy a different brand. All DLP TVs will have lamps that occasionally fail. But to fail twice in less that 3 months a inexcusable.
Since I purchased it on 8 August 2007 I have had to replace the lamp twice and we only watch it twenty or so hours a week. Thankfully it's under warranty and the lamp isn't costing me anything out of pocket but the warranty is only good for one year. Some have suggested that it may be the quality of the power but since day 1 I've used the Monster Power HTS 1600 Power System which conditions the power and provides surge protection. It must be the quality of the product. There is never a loud pop that I'm told you hear when most of these lamps fail. It just won't come on. I live in Denver and with the Rockies in the World Series my guess is it will go out again just before game 4.
This is my first HD TV. I upgraded from a 32 inch traditional and I'm very happy with the picture quality and the overall viewing experience. But replacing a lamp every 30 days ruins it for me.
Toshiba says that if the lamp fails again in a short period of time they will look at other options. My preferred options is a new TV but I doubt that will be their preference. I believe I'm in for a long fight. I'll let you know.
