Could be a hit or miss product?

Pros Loaded with features
Cons Slow, long chapter pauses, poor warranty, cumbersome timeslip.
Recommended it? No
The Bottom Line:  Slow, cumbersome product with faulty electronics--lasted 1 week. Toshiba didn't stand 100% behind their product. We bought another brand.
This DVD recorder has several attractive features: DVD-RAM with "timeslip" gives you a TIVO(R)-type recording/playback capability for TV shows, rapid recording of camcorder videos to DVDs, and can be used to transfer outdated VHS tapes to DVD.

Unfortunately, we were more than a bit peeved with this unit. We used our D-R2 DVD recorder for no more than one week before it died. Best that we could tell, it had a bad power supply.

Before dying, we found it to be intolerably slow to recognize and/or eject disks. In cases of DVD-R and DVD+RW, the recognition time was sometimes in excess of 5 minutes-- too long. We did record a camcorder DV cassette onto a DVD. The DVD recorder added excessively long pauses, sometimes up to a minute, between chapters. We also found that the unit's progressive scan auto-recognition didn't work at all. We have another DVD player with progressive scan that works perfectly fine with our projection TV. The "Timeslip" feature was remarkably cumbersome.

We did attempt to use Toshiba's repair service, right up until they said, "You pay to ship it to us." We felt it was unethical of them to not stand 100% behind their product. They simply shrugged their "limited warranty off as this being their "policy" . Instead of paying over $20 in standard shipping, we took it back to the store. Because Toshiba doesn't stand behind their product quality, we bought a different brand and vowed to avoid Toshiba in the future.
