toshiba dr2 widescreen ability

Pros i must have gotten a good one!
Cons the manual must be read.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  works great for all dvd applications. widescreen recording is icing on the cake.
i cant believe im the only one out there who knows about the toshiba dr2 dvd recorders ability to PROPERLY record widescreen dvd, w/ anamorphic and letterbox on same dvd-r disc just like the store bought dvds. i havnt seen any other mention of it in any forums, discussions, chats, magazine articles, etc at all. go to the recording menu, the 5th icon, go down 4 items and CHOOSE between 16/9 or 4/3. it works great. ive had this machine for two years, wore it out after using it in 24, 36 hour sessions sometimes, id sleep while movies were recording. i sent it in for a new drive unit after 18 mos and its just like new again. i also bought a panasonic es15 for 4/3 stuff thereby reducing the load on dr2. i have them hooked up to the s video output of a toshiba 5970 or a panasonic dvds77 player or a scientific/atlanta / adelphia, now comcast, 8000hd stb. i use a sima ct2 for dvd copies. it works good but sucks some of the blacks out of the copies. i watch all these on a panasonic pt500 lcd projector and they look very good. 135 minutes is the longest you want to go although on a smaller tv it might be ok to go longer. im looking for more dr2s as other manufacturers dont seem to make widescreen dvd recorders. my panasonic es15 will record just what you put into it. anamorphic widescreen will stay anamorphic widescreed even on a 4/3 tv (ugh!) but looks great on widescreen tv.
