An excellent VCR

Pros Easy to use once you understand it.
Cons The manual is vague, and non descriptive at times.
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  If you need a VCR, and don't want to spend a lot of money on it, get this one.
I bought this VCR about a year ago, when I got a new audio system and computer system from Best Buy. I needed a new VCR for my room. My brother was working at Best Buy at the time, and while I got the computer and audio system, I decided, "Why not?". It would be marked down from its price after my brother's discount, so it would be even cheaper.

I was looking for a VCR that would be able to record TV programs while I was away or unable to see them. I didn't need anything fancy from it, just some A/V hookups for my video game systems and audio system. By the way, it has two A/V inputs, and one A/V line going out. It also has coaxial hookups; one going in (For an antenna or cable box), and one out (Possibly to a TV).

Once I got it out of the box, it was fairly easy to hook up. The manual was pretty descriptive (As far as VCR manuals go), but vague at times, such as how to record. You need to push two buttons simultaneously to turn the VCR off, and put it into its recording mode. After you figure this out, it's very easy and fast. I can program a TV show in under 20 seconds, as long as I know what I'm doing before hand.

The remote has a lot of buttons on it, and was supposed to work with my TV (So you could control both VCR and TV with one remote) but didn't, probably because my TV was too old. I have recently gotten a new great Sony TV (You can read the review for it here in case you're interested http://www.epinions.com/elec-review-5DC6-48F49530-3A54D194-prod3 ) and I'm not sure if the VCR remote is compatible with it. I'll be sure to change this once I find out. (Updated- I finally got around to sending an email to Toshiba customer support to get help with programming my TV, because I misplaced the manual. They were a great help, and the VCR remote DOES work with the new TV.)

Recording is so easy, it's almost hard to believe. The menus are easy to go through, once you understand them. When you're finished programming, you have to push the Timer button, and another unmarked red button to put the VCR into its mode to record. This was easy to do once you found out, the manual wasn't much help there. The VCR also has an easy one touch recording feature... at least they call it easy. You can't really tell which channel you are recording when you do this, so I always do the normal program, which doesn't take long.

The quality of recorded programs is good. I can't see any major problems with shows that I record, although there are some small jumps occasionally, but nothing to trash the VCR.

I think this VCR is great for people who don't need to get a whole lot of special uses out of it and flawless recording. It's the perfect VCR for those of you who just want to tape shows that you miss, or watch movies on. For those of you wanting to record from other tapes, you might want to get a little more expensive VCR
