I bought this VCR because it had been rated by several sources quite high however I was very disappointed for the following reasons:
1-The manual, as do a lot of manuals, is written very poorly. For instance to set the Timer the manual says "Press both TIMER simultaneously." What does that mean? The sentence doesn't make sense. You then look at the diagram and find out that you must push the Timer button and a blank button next to it(although the illustration is very unclear) to set the Timer. I have owned probably 20 VCR's over the course of time and I do not like a Timer that requires a separate "action", other than turning it on and off, to activate the Timer. So this one not only requires you to activate the Timer, but the manual is horrible in describing the way to do it.
2) You cannot tell what channel is being recorded while it is recording with the Timer. You can cycle through three modes, but none tell you the channel.
3) You cannot stop the VCR after the timer recording has begun. This is very annoying.
4) The Timer is limited to only six recordings(most VCR's will allow you to schedule eight programs).
Since I don't use this VCR to view a recording(I transfer the tape to another machine to view it), I can't really comment about picture and sound quality.
