Great product despite high price
Pros
Huge 4" color screen, VGA resolution
Cons
Need shareware to run VGA mode, no case, expensive
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Buy it for its wireless browsing / e-mail on its wonderfully bright VGA-resolution screen.
Tried my first PPC a few weeks ago (Viewsonic V36), saw the potential of PPC and decided that I wanted the 802.11b plus better expandability. Returned the Viewsonic and bit the big bullet -- picked up the Toshiba E805 instead. No regrets, despite the much higher price.
After purchasing the VGA resfix 2.0 shareware application (a mere $10 US), everything works as expected (wireless internet / e-mail is outstanding, esp. at VGA resolution)! The type is a bit small at VGA, but still quite readable.
Had a few glitches requiring several resets (and a hard reset on one occasion, but nothing like the many problems I had with the Viewsonic), but mostly trouble-free operation. Battery life approx. 3-4 hours of continuous use. I purchased the extended battery, and now I can run the E805 for days without recharging!
Total paid was $550 ($50 rebate from Circuit City last week) plus $85 (Amazon) for the extended battery, which includes a slip-cover case sufficiently large to fit the E805 w/extended battery. Also picked up the 4-year warranty for $135 since I will be using the PDA quite heavily.
All in all, I am very happy with the device and give it a big thumbs up. I am the envy of my business associates when I whip this baby out!
