Hit and Miss after 1 year

Pros Video quality.
Cons Too much instability with discs and poor handling of audio CDs.
Recommended it? No

I really was in awe of the product and its video quality. It allowed me to overlook its quirky behavior with sometimes accepting RAM and -RW media and sometimes not. It also allowed me to overlook the failure to handle CDs and change tracks easily or skip around. It allowed me to overlook not... Read full review »

No Problems

Pros Powerful editing, simple interface, chase play for TV
Cons None
Recommended it? Yes

Other places recommended Ridata 4x's. They burn in 15 mins and no "coasters" yet. I have played these DVD-R on three other brands of players. I don't notice any black level bugs noted in other places. The editing capabilities of this machine are awesome. I have been compiling years of 8mm camera... Read full review »

Can't be beat!

Pros Lots of options, great quality, easy to use, makes my friends with Tivo jealous!
Cons I wish the firewire port was export capable not import only-but thats minor!
Recommended it? Yes

People who still think Tivo is cool really need to get with the program! This blows Tivo out of the water! Its got everything. Yeah, it may take a little while to get used to its controls...but when it can do so much-that is expected. This is a really good buy-and a year later I can't really buy it... Read full review »

Non-intuitive, disks not readily playable on other machines.

Pros HDD and DVD burner in one. Reasonably priced.
Cons Burned DVD's are unreliable, so why bother?
Recommended it? No

I've typically had good luck with Toshiba products, but this is a "5" on a 10-scale at best. I got a good price on-line, received it promptly, and was ready to start archiving my old videos and new stuff from broadcasts. The connections are straight forward, but after that, watch out. The manual is... Read full review »

Excellent Machine

Pros A feature packed machine.
Cons Making DVD's is over complicated with 2 different ways to achieve the same goal.
Recommended it? Yes

This is a great machine...when you get the hang of it. What the manual doesn't tell you explicitly is; if you are having trouble creating good dvd's with the "create dvd" function due to things like pixelation etc. then what you should do is use the "dub" feature followed by the "finalizing"... Throw away that VCR

Pros Name brand, price, 80GB hard drive, plays just about any DVD.
Cons DVD+ would be great but it I knew that ahead of time.
Recommended it? Yes

I've had very good luck with Toshiba products so I decided this would be the way to go. I've recorded with DVD-R, DVD-RW, and to the 80GB hard drive. All with great results. The best thing was I hooked up my VCR and dubbed all my old tapes to the hard drives and then copied them to a DVD after some... Read full review »

I bought this player and have had nothing but problems.

Pros The unit is slim
Cons Difficult to use, expensive DVDrs, crappy customer service.
Recommended it? No

I bought the Toshiba DVD recorder to record the Olympics. I have successfully recorded to my Hard drive but burning to DVD is another story altogether. You MUST use a certain blank DVD. Otherwise, you get an error message. And Toshiba will not even think that it is a problem with their recording... Read full review »

Pros hard drive, picture quality, high speed dubbing, editing features.
Cons error messages: disk needs to be cleaned or is damaged, cannot create thumbnails in...
Recommended it? Yes

First of all; I bought this unit a little over 2 yrs ago, it was an "open box" at Best Buy. So I bought it luckily for half price since it was open box, missing the manual, power cable, and remote control unit. I ordered the remote from Toshiba right after I bought it. Overall I really like this... Read full review »

What a great buy this was...

Pros 80GB hard drive; editing ability; Menu creation; Price at Amazon.com; loads cheaper...
Cons Using remote to enter words for titles can be cumbersome.
Recommended it? Yes

I did an incredible amount of research and price comparisons when I was looking to buy a DVD Recorder, and after about 3 solid weeks I narrowed my choices to either a Panasonic E85 (120GB Hard Drive) or Toshiba XS32 (80GB Hard Drive). I had looked at CNET, Epinions, Amazon, and other sites for... Read full review »
