Simply put: Love it!!

Pros Great quality, Timeslip feature, big hard drive, DVD-RAM, Easy programming
Cons Unit is slow to startup(not really much of a negative if you ask me)
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  This is a superb machine. I highly recommend it over any other VCR/DVD player on the market. It's worth the money -- hands down.
After a lot of trials and problems with VCR/DVD combos, I finally dug in and did some hard core research -- and found this great machine! Forget about VCRs from here on out!

The unit has an 80 MB hard drive -- and a DVD recorder. It's all you could ever ask for and more! The only thing I think they skimped on is not putting in two tuners -- so you can record two different shows at the same time. That would have been nice but since no other product is out there like that -- this is the best.

The best part of this unit is the hard drive -- no more warn out and old tapes! No more rewinding, fast forwarding or searching! When you stop a show and return to it later -- it continues to play right where you left off. It's awesome! And you don't have to subscribe to TiVo! Yeah!!! It works with regular cable so long as you don't use a cable box. I hear there are issues with this unit and some cable boxes -- so beware.

You can record a show to either the DVD or the HD, or you can let the machine choose automatically where to put it. You can watch recorded shows while recording another show -- something a VCR doesn't allow. Or you can jump into a show being recorded using a feature called Timeslip and you can rewind it and watch while it continues to record. We do this so we can skip commercials. It's awesome!

People wrote reviews as if this machine was so technically advanced that it would be hard to program, etc. It took one time reading the manual, and I was set to go. It took about a day of use to figure it all out -- and I haven't looked back since. We've owned it now for about six weeks and love this machine. We can't rave enough about it!!

The unit has ample control over every component -- except you cannot delete shows while it is recording. That's the only thing you can't do that we wish we could (I suppose technically it is not possible).

The quality of shows recorded is also fabulous. I have no complaints about this unit whatsoever and I am a picky consumer!

Toshiba has come up with a newer model that has a 160MB hard drive but I that's overkill. It's way too huge. Plus they dropped one of the recording formats (DVD-R, I think). I wanted to keep that format.

This unit also plays photos CDs. It's slow but fun!

If you are considering this unit, I highly recommend it.
