Slow Response, Poor Remote, terrible performance
Pros
When picture is working it's beautiful. Sound when not stuttering is great.
Cons
Remote, speed, upconversion and lawsuit.
Recommended it?
No
I usually buy Panasonic products. However, Toshiba was the first out with HDMI hookups. I don't like to wait so I jumped and bought the DVD player.
The response time between pressing a button and the DVD responding in frustratingly slow. Pressing open, nothing happens, press again and suddenly the DVD player catches up. Opening and reclosing the door. Ugh!
Others have said it. The remote is just plain aweful! Poor button locations and size. You need to be so close to the DVD player that you might as well get up and use the poorly desinged buttons on the player itself.
I played two DVD's that froze the machine and/or began pixelated and stuttered. Jaws 25th anniversary and the new National Treasure.
I called Toshiba and they said to unplug and it wouldn't happen again. Incorrect. The problem stays.
I then found out through an internet search that Toshiba has a class action suit against it for the poor performance and false advertising regarding the SD-5900 series. I signed up. Here's the address: http://www.dvdnotice.com/Tfullnotice.html
