The Bottom Line:
If you have a High Definition TV, then this is the DVD player to get.......for now.
Installed my new Toshiba SD5970 2 weeks ago. Although it came with an HDMI cable, I had to get a new one as my new Mitsubishi 73" TV didn't have HDMI, just DVI. Radio Shack had a cable for $130..so I got it, knowing I could get one much cheaper online, then return theirs. I found one online (HDMI to DVI 3 meters) for $25. With that said, the HD picture is great! I hooked up component video as well so I could play a DVD and compare the picture quality......Big Difference! This unit is well worth the $150 I paid. Although I found the remote to be a bit sluggish at times. The only sand in my skivvies is that you have to select which HDMI mode you want to display the DVD in each time you insert a DVD, otherwise, you get 480p. In order to get 1080i, you have to select the HDMI button three times, with a little hesitation between selections.
I also tested the jpeg files from my PC digital pictures...burned to a CD-R. Works great as long as you only have pix on the disk. If you have them categorized into folders (by event), then you get scrambled eggs.
