Does not do what a basic DVD player should do - play DVDs
I bought this unit for my mom a couple of years ago since it was inexpensive and easy for her...a non-techy type...to understand and operate. Fortunately for her, she only used it when I was there to operate for her, because if she had tried on her own, it would've destroyed any trust in today's electronics that she still had. It was used maybe 4 times when she had it.
I've since brought it to my home to use as a supplemental piece to my main and studio A/V systems. It was unreliable in the living room and now out here in my studio, it has failed to work for the last time. I just tried 3 reliable, commercially-made DVDs into it and it fails to read any of them. These are ones that have worked numerous times on the main system so I know the DVDs are not faulty.
This is my first Toshiba product and although a certain product-review agency gives them high marks, this one is a piece of crap. I guess what "they" say is true - you get what you pay for. I would neither buy again nor recommend a Toshiba DVD player, until they can prove to me that they can make a simple player.
