Not the best from Toshiba
Pros
playback of DVDs
Cons
VCR recording and playback, no RF coaxial cable outputs
Recommended it?
No
The Bottom Line:
Not the best from Toshiba, I cannot recommend it.
I purchased this a few months ago for a secondary TV set. I use this only for playback of tapes and DVDs.
The playback of VHS tapes is average to below average (tolerable for me). Below average playback is standard nowadays with VCRs. Finding a good VCR is difficult.
This DVD/VCR combo does *not* have RF coaxial cable input/outputs. If you need one that does, don't buy it. The only choice for VCR playback/recording is composite cables. It does not have S-Video outputs for the VCR side.
Recording is below average, but I rarely record VHS tapes on this. So I don't mind. If you plan on recording and want average picture, don't buy it.
Playback of DVDs is average/good using RCA cables, A/V cables, composite cables (whatever you choose to call them). I have not tested it on S-video, I would expect picture quality to improve slightly.
Other reviewers claimed sound issues on this model, but mine is fine.
The DVD tray when it opens and closes is noisier than my SONY DVD player. Also, the tray is slow to respond to the remote. This is not only annoying, it raises quality concerns.
Since it is used for a secondary TV set, a set which only has composite cables as it best input, it is a fit for my circumstances. But, I cannot recomend this Toshiba DVD/VCR combo.
