The Bottom Line:
This is a relatively low priced, but well built, easy to use machine that I believe is suitable for anyone no matter how much it is used.
I bought this machine in June 2004 and for the most part have been very happy.
The VCR has very good playback, fast rewind, good picture and is pretty easy to record with. I have only recorded 2 movies with it so far on SLP and they have turned out good. The DVD player is what I use most often. I really like the slow and zoom features on the machine. It produces a very high quality picture with good audio. The salesman at Best Buy said that Toshibas are high quality products. This is my first Toshiba and so far I am happy. At $129.99 it was relatively inexpensive compared to others however, it is very suitable for my needs, and although I am not an electronics whiz the machine seems to have many capabilities. The display window tells the time, which mode either VCR or DVD and how far into the film you are. I think it is definitely better to get a combo rather than a separate VCR and separate DVD player if you are in the market. The machine is made so that you can record on the VCR and still view a DVD if desired, it will also play Audio CD's which I love since the machine is in my living room and I don't have a stereo in my living room.
The only problem that I am having is that the machine does not like to go off. I find that lately I have to turn it off twice. The first time that I try to turn it off it goes off and then 5 seconds later comes on again. It does shut off after the second time that I push the button. This is a minor inconvenience and so I do not feel like shipping it to a warranty dealer.
According to the manual, the machine has a 90 Day and 1 year warranty. What happens is, that if anything occurs after 90 days, they will cover the cost of parts or send you a new machine, however if there is labor involved then, you have to pay for the labor. Any repairs needed within the first 90 days then they cover parts and labor.
Overall I am satisfied.
