Recommended it?
Yes
My roomate went out and got a new DVD player, not that anything was wrong with the one I had, he just wanted one for himself. (It's an electronic household here) So he leaves, comes back in about 40 minutes with a box in his hand. "Oooh the new Toshiba" I say. "Yup" is his only response.
We ran into a little trouble hooking it up, my TV has no audio or video jacks no problem, called the local Radio Shack, got a RF Modulator (around 30 dollars) and all my problems were solved, except one, with the modulator I cannot hook the DVD up to the surround sound system. Oh well.
(I can if i get some extensions and adapters, too much trouble for the moment)
Now it's all hooked up, I pop in Any Given Sunday (the 1st movie I bought in DVD - see my review) It goes through it's little intro and POW there's the menu screen. I press play and here comes the best DVD picture I've seen to date. Very smooth, crisp sharp picture. During one part of the movie the screen froze and wouldn't play at all, but it was just the disc, a little cleaning and it worked just fine (the disc wasn't all that dirty however) Excellent Sound. I'm an official DVD person now, forget VHS.
This model has many options and neat features you can put to work for you. Not all DVD's have this, but a lot are filmed with different camera angles, which you can change by pressing the angle button (Any Given Sunday does not have this feature) It has a 3x Zoom feature, 3-D sound enhancement, and subtitles in multiple languages. You can play this in slo-mo, 2x speed, frame by frame, play entire tracks in random order and you can also choose the order in which you want to play the tracks and even repeat your favorite scene. There's just so many options and features with DVD that you don't have with VHS. Which makes DVD more logical and convenient in my opinion. If you're not a DVD person yet, try out this player I'm sure you'll see the light.
