The Bottom Line:
Get the SD1600 instead.
The Toshiba SD1700 DVD player has all the standard features in its DVD players, such as parallel video output, Dolby Digital and DTS compatible output, Spatializer N-2-2 virtual surround sound, and an icon-based onscreen display. However, this unit is basically the same as the SD1600 its suppose to replace except for the following that I noticed anyway:
SD1700 SD1600
4 speed fast forward 3 speed fast forward
and rewind and rewind
500 lines of horizontal resolution 550 lines
Tradeoff between speed and resolution I would pick resolution everytime. As with the SD1600 this unit does not play CD-R, MP3 etc.
Overall, I would go with the SD1600 instead if your looking for a great movie DVD player. And since the SD1600 is being phased out you can probably find this unit at a bargain price right now.
