Linksys SD2008 (C01003)

If you ever have to purchase any of the new types of televisions on today's market, you will soon realize that they are more than just TV's. Once you get them home and see how much potential that they have you will want to take full advantage of it. One way to do that is by networking off of your PC, with a Linksys 8-port 10/100/1000/ Gigabit Switch, model SD2008. A lot of small businesses use this type of networking device to keep their businesses running smoothly. This is very simple to use and set up, we found ours at Best Buy for only $40, that's not considering the advantages that this was going to do for us in the long run.

When we first purchased our LED TV's we had no idea what their potential, with the help of this Linksys 8 port switch, we are able to access our internet without the PC being turned, and if you have movies loaded to your computer you can watch a different movie on any set in your house, as long as your PC is still on. The hardest part is getting all of your cables through the joists and out of sight. This came with a power cord and a manual, you have to supply all of the CAT5e cables to route all of your TV'S and or extra PC's that you may have.

Description
This little box has 8 ports on the back and 8 green led lights on the front. You can either lay this flat or there are a couple of mounting holes located in the bottom if you want to mount this on the wall. There are four rubber feet to help with any vibrations that this may cause when on the wall. This also has a security slot on the side to allow you to lock this up if you are going to use this in a office.

This switch does not take up much space and does not weigh but a little over a pound.  It measures 5" x 5" x 1" and is silver in color. Once you have connected it to your wireless router you can hook up several devices such as your desktop PC, a notebook, TV's, and even some game systems. The maximum distance that  you will be able to run cables is approximately 328', any further than that and you will make your signal to week to run your devices.

Experience
Will wonders never cease, once we pulled this unit out of the box, it started working automatically. It was simple to hook up, the hard part was getting the cables ran and the stuff configured in the PC. There was a lot of stuff that had to be configured inside, but the switch worked as soon as we hooked it up. All of the devices have been running at top speed and all at the same time. I have not noticed any slow down when everything is up and running.

When one device needs more speed this switch will automatically jack up the speed where it is needed. The standards on this model is IEEE 802.3, IEEE 802.3u, 802.3x, 802.3ab. All 8 of the ports are RJ-45 10/100/1000 Mbps ports and can use CAT5e cable. We have had different types of cable companies and have not noticed any conflicts in the way that this has worked. The important thing that you should know that this has and that is the fact that this switch has an automatic crossover detection device, so that is you have to cross the ends of the cable inside wires the switch will automatically detect that that they are crossed over and be able to work properly.

Conclusion
We have been using this for over a year and it has not skipped a beat. We have had surges in power and the switch still has worked after the power was turned back on. I would highly recommend that if you would like to get the full potential out of your PC and new TV'S get this switch and take the time to install this and all the cables. You will fully enjoy the addition of the capabilities that this has to give.
