We purchased our first DVD player in February of 1999 and we purchased the Toshiba DVD Player SD- 2008. We were thrilled at first. Just starting out, we did not use the DVD to much as we had yet to purchase very many DVD disks.
After only having the DVD player for three months (of course right after the labor warranty runs out) we start having many problems. The first being the DVD would skip scenes. Then it started stopping in the middle of scenes and freezing for several seconds to minutes at a time. Then it would freeze, cut off and not come back on for days!!
We took our player back to the retailer and had to pay $175 for repairs. Our player was in the shop for a month and a half and when we finally got it back, the problems had never been fixed.
At this point, I called Toshiba and explained the problems. They had us ship our player to them (at our cost) and they replaced it with a refurbished player (1 1/2 months later). The refurbished player we had 2 days and it did the same things!! This time, our call to Toshiba resulted in Toshiba paying for shipping and us without a player for yet another month.
The good side of this is that they upgraded our DVD player to the latest model and gave us a full coverage year warranty.
