Welcome to DVD
Pros
Good price, great features, and it's DVD!
Cons
none really
Recommended it?
Yes
When I decided to upgrade from Laserdisc to DVD I did a lot of shopping around. I looked at models made by Pioneer, Sanyo, Sony, and many other manufacturers. By far the most value for dollars spent could be found with Toshiba.
The Toshiba Sd2008 has every feature you need to get started enjoying the world of DVD, and at a very competetive price. The machine is aesthetically pleasing: black, with smooth lines and a low profile.
It seems solid and durable, and so far has required no repair or service (the same cannot be said of my Pioneer LD player, which has required many repairs over the years).
I would certainly recomend this player to anyone interested in an entry level DVD player. Of course, if you have 5 or 6 thousand dollars to spend there are much better players available, but in this price range the Toshiba is one of the best.
For those not initiated into the world of DVD, go to Best Buy, or another retail store and have a salesperson give you a demonstration. VHS is deader than disco!
