Toshiba SD9200 DVD Video/Audio Player - Its Time Has Passed

Pros Features, bragging rights
Cons Price, picture quality, better performance from some sub-$300 models
Recommended it? No

The Toshiba SD9200 costs a fortune and is supposed to be a great performer. Unfortunately, it is not. The player has progressive scan and DVD-Audio playback. And it is progressive scan where it is far behind today?s cheap models like Panasonic RP56 and JVC 60, 65, 70 and 75.

The SD9200... Read full review »

Pros Supports Multiple Formats, Easy To Use, Durable, Proggressive Out
Cons None
Recommended it? Yes

The Toshiba SD9200 is one truly powerful DVD/CD/VCD player that I have seen on the market. First of all, I decided to compare it against the Sony DVPS9000 which goes for $1500. I have heard many great things about the Sony, and a few people I know said that the Toshiba SD9200 was also a great... Read full review »

Pros Well-Built, Great Picture and Sound Quality, Built Like A Tank
Cons Expensive, Progressive Output Does Not Work With All Digital TVs
Recommended it? Yes

When the UPS driver made a face lifting the box this DVD player shipped in, I thought, "what a wimp!" Well, let me tell you that I made the same face when he handed it to me. This player is built like a war machine, ready to take on anything and everything!

The overall heft is not just... Read full review »

Pros Progressive Scan, Screen Saver, Zoom in and out.
Cons Will not play copy CD, DVD's or MP3's.
Recommended it? Yes

Superior picture quality and Sound remains the single most important thing I look for. Toshiba’s new players include Colorstream component video outputs. The Colorstream component video connection is the ideal interface between a digital video source and a connected display device. The resulting... Read full review »

Pros Supports DVD Audio, reasonably good progressive output
Cons HAS THE RED CHROMA OVERSAMPLING BUG!!! slow in loading disks.
Recommended it? No

Well, when I bought a 3rd generation progressive scan player from Toshiba, who was the first to have such product on the consumer market, I expected a "top notch" product.
What I found out is that it has a major flaw, so called "Red Chroma Bug", that causes areas of intense red to show dark... Read full review »

Okay, I have decided to update this review based on over a year of extensive experience with this player.

Pros high quality
Cons With different digital TVs progressive output is not compatible
Recommended it? Yes

When I bought this I was very eager to see what seemed to be a great move on my part. In my experience I was very pleased to learn that it can actually decode the high resolution audio signal from DVD audio recordings and very high quality progressive scan and component output. It has 1s-video... Read full review »

Pros best picture around, screen saver for those with lcd projectors, DTS
Cons cannot upgrade flash to support new formats, remote is very strange.

Toshiba's new top of the line should be out by now, and in the near future, consumers will likely incur a price break on this one. I can recommend you snatch one up if you are looking, but don't need all the enhancements on the newest model.

This dvd player was highly recommended by one... Read full review »

Pros definite advancement
Cons still not perfect
Recommended it? Yes

This player combs on a lot of material. This player is below the bar in de-interlacing performance.
However, on the good side, it?s quick and easy to switch modes. Just wish I didn't have to do it so often.

This player has the chroma upsampling bug, that will be visible on any film... Read full review »

Pros Progressive Scan, Sharp Video and Audio, CDR support
Cons Still pricey but very much worth it
Recommended it? Yes

Toshiba has been leading the pack in terms of features and design in my DVD player review round up. The 9200 is the most amazing player out on the market now. It was so hot, I was quite upset when I found out I wasn't allowed to take it home with me. This player does not have all the bonus's of the... Read full review »
