The Bottom Line:
This is a cool player. You can get it for as little as $1,200 off some websites. It's definintly better than competition.
The Toshiba SD9200 is one truly powerful DVD/CD/VCD player that I have seen on the market. First of all, I decided to compare it against the Sony DVPS9000 which goes for $1500. I have heard many great things about the Sony, and a few people I know said that the Toshiba SD9200 was also a great Do-It-All DVD player. I decided to give the Toshiba SD9200 a try, and here's what I found with it:
Price:
The Toshiba SD9200 comes in at a price of $2000. I'd have to say that it's in direct competition with the Sony DVPS9000. Both are built to carry out multiple formats, and execute these actions quite well. The Toshiba SD9200 is well worth the price I think, even a better buy than the Sony. The Toshiba SD9200 supports many more formats than the Sony, including the VCD format which is incredible for internet junkies. It supports much more than the Sony. It's an incredibly solid player with the same features as the Sony. It's also backed by the Toshiba quality, the Toshiba SD9200 is a great buy. It's well worth it. One other good thing about it is that it has a progressive scan output which gives you improved picture quality if you connect it into the TV via component out.
Warranty:
I was able to get a 1 year parts&labor warranty from Toshiba with the Toshiba SD9200. It's quite nice to have such a warranty, the big name companies like Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, and Mitsubishi are very trustworthy with their warranties. Toshiba takes care of all problems and complaints fast and with no hassles. It's great to have the warranty with this system.
Looks and Styling:
The Toshiba SD9200 is a very large black DVD player. It looks very basic actually, most actions can be done with the remote control. There are very few buttons on the Toshiba SD9200, but it will look great in any room alongside with any other TV.
Durability:
The Toshiba SD9200 is built with a copper chasis, this makes it INCREDIBLY solid and durable. This is probably the strongest and most solid DVD player that I have ever seen in my life. It can survive getting hit a few times, it's built to last for a lifetime.
Sound:
The Toshiba SD9200 has incredible sound. It comes with a 3D sound feature, it can add a great super sound effect to any video you're watching. The DVD-Audio also end up sounding fantastic on this system, the sound is just incredible on the Toshiba SD9200. It sounds great over a 5.1 home theater hook-up... Just incredible.
Video:
The video on the Toshiba SD9200 is very sharp and colorful. The Toshiba SD9200 comes with a 10-bit 54MhZ decoder for giving out some of the best video quality you can imagine. The Super ColorStream Pro adds a great punch to the video quality, it really makes the images all look amazing. The Toshiba SD9200 has some of the greatest colors that I have ever seen, the images will just impress you completely. Especially the progressive scan output which looks great on HDTV or progressive scan TVs.
Ease of Use:
Despite all of its features and price, the Toshiba SD9200 was still very easy to use. There is a remote control that comes with the Toshiba SD9200. The remote control has a joystick in it and also several buttons which make using the Toshiba SD9200 very easy. You can execute everything from this remote, I just feel so much power within me when I have the remote control in my hand :-) Just about anyone can use this player, navigating through it is just so easy. No hassles at all, not even one!
Features:
The Toshiba SD9200 has numerous features which are just great to have. Some are the 10-bit 54MhZ video decoder, it allows for some excellent graphics. The Toshiba SD9200 also comes with a remote control with a joystick for easy navigation, and makes accessing options and executing them very easy. The formats supported also make this one of the best DVDs avaliable, they are:
*DVD - The basic movies of today. the main purpose of buying a DVD player is to watch DVD movies on. They usually have a video format of 480i and produce superior sound and video.
*DVD-Audio - DVD audio takes music a step further than CDs. DVD-Audio is music encoded into DVDs that sounds better than anything you can imagine.
*CD - Basic music, CDs can be bought from the store. It's usually audio, this does NOT include CR-RW.
*CD-R - CDs that you can use with CD burners, CD-RW machines. You can put VCD movies on them, MP3s, or anything else that you want.
*VCD - VCD is a movie CD, or as in another movie format that you find on the internet. Like .avi or .mov, VCD can be full length movies. You simply download them and burn them onto a CD-R disc, and then pop it into the DVD/CD/VCD player, and then you can watch the movies. The VCD movies are also high quality for what you pay, $0. There are visible pixels, but you can still watch the videos peacefully.
The Verdict:
The Toshiba SD9200 is just an incredible DVD/CD/VCD player that is well worth the price. I found it to even be better than the Sony DVPS9000. The Toshiba SD9200 supports multiple formats, and is built very solid and out of very high quality components. The Toshiba SD9200 is well worth it if you need a very powerful DVD/CD/VCD system that supports many formats. The Toshiba SD9200 I would consider to be a best buy, and will amaze all who use it.
