Toshiba has been leading the pack in terms of features and design in my DVD player review round up. The 9200 is the most amazing player out on the market now. It was so hot, I was quite upset when I found out I wasn't allowed to take it home with me. This player does not have all the bonus's of the other Toshiba's such as a built in receiver, however this player is built to be just one mean DVD player, and nothing else. To be short, it succeeds hands down as the most impressive player I've rated and reviewed.
The 9200 has Toshiba's great Progressive Scan playback, which gives you a full 60 frames per second, (eliminating fields, for in depth look at progressive scan read my Toshiba 5109 review). The picture quality is amazing, and as always Toshiba's Black level boost is included which increases the depth of the black levels on your TV for a color rich picture. The 9200 also has advanced 4:4:4 color processing. (it basically scans each color, RGB, four times to make it as crisp and clear as possible). It also has 3D digital noise reduction to eliminate any excess noise caused from internal electronics, that cause minor distortions. All in all this player provides the clearest and sharpest picture possible.
The Audio on this beast rules, it has 6 Analogue outputs for full DTS and Dobly Digital surround Sound hook up. It contains HDCD audio filtering, (Which like the 3D image filtering removes any hissing and buzzing for amazingly clear audio), which goes to prove not all DVD players are created equal. This player is capable of 24-bit 192kHz audio frequency (higher than just about any other player available, CD audio is 16-bit/96kHz).
It also features DVD/CD text which will display CD or DVD information such as song title and artist (on compatible CD's and DVD's). One of the coolest and most under appreciated features of DVD players, is the support of CDR discs. Just about every DVD player does not support CDR discs, this is a bummer for people making their own Audio mix's, or even creating their own short VCD movies (VCD is an older CD-Rom format for Video, highly popular in Asia, quality is comparable to VHS).
The price is very steep, however this player is made only for real enthusiasts who have a HDTV setup, and a full BOSE speaker setup. With all the features, I actually say it's worth the price tag of "GASP" $1999.00.
