The Bottom Line:
Lets you do what you want at a great value... watch DVDs. Buy it.
This is my first portable DVD player (besides using a laptop). The reason I chose this one was the price... $269 as an open item. Some of the other players were quite a bit more for roughly the same experience. Screen size is big enough to enjoy but not too big to be a portable. I mean at some point you might as well use a laptop computer (and the price would be comparable in most cases). I bought a generic Targus tote bag for this unit and it travels nicely and doesn't feel like a piece of equipment to lug around... only slightly larger than a portable CD player. I've watched movies on planes, in buses, and in cars (no I wasn't driving) and the performance was satisfactory.
The unit comes with everything you need to charge and connect this thing to power anywhere (AC and car DC) and comes with a nice little remote. You may ask, "Why a remote for a lap player?" Well the screen is actually big enough to set up on a hotel dresser and watch a movies from bed... thus you need a remote. I really like the way they did the battery pack too, it's very un-intrusive and lasts (I know) at least two and a half hours. This overly insures your not watching Titanic on your flight from Atlanta to LA.
The unit works well as a replacement or temp for a home unit as well. It has S Video, AV out and Bitstream/PCM out to hook into your AV system. It also has two earphone jacks, but regrettably only one volume control and it's analog. This is the only real drawback to this unit in my opinion. The setup and options menu are well designed too. The unit actually had more sound and video options for its price range than I expected.
