So far, so good...
Pros
Stable playback(store bought) disks, good screen size
Cons
Still a pricey item (for me at least); ?????
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Stable play is a big item for me. Going with an off brand may yield unreliable performance. So far this unit is a pleasure to use.
I ordered a Toshiba SD-P2000 portable DVD player from 6th Ave. Electronics on April 8th (Tue) and it arrived on April 11th (Fri) as promised. It arrived in good condition and I was easily able to track the product movement. I received all promised emails regarding the purchase in a timely manner.
The rep was not overly "chatty" but was pleasant. He answered my two questions without any attitude. I sometimes did not hear him well as he was soft spoken at times.
I liked this merchant because of their low price PLUS their return policy. They said they could take the unit back within 30 days if it was defective. This is a much nicer policy than any other store I checked out. Plus, they would send a call tag to me to have it picked up! The rep did ask if I needed anything else, I said no thanks, and that was that...no sales pressure.
The unit so far has played three movies flawlessly. I just returned a Cyberhome model from HSN that would start to stutter during movies, forcing me to cycle power to reset it then try to figure out where in the movie I was.
I don't have a lot to add yet since I just received it but so far it is working like a champ. The built in sound is on par with other units of this type. Have not tried headphones yet so cannot comment.
I will add move when I have tried it out more, like with DVD-R, DVD+R, VCDs, etc. Note: a small note here but the picture posted on this site is actually of an older model. The newer one has a slightly different speaker-cover look but the rest looks about the same. 6th Ave had an older pic as well.

4/14/03 UPDATE
I had read in another review (not sure which web site) that this unit would not work with a DC to AC inverter due to a frequency issue. I just proved that wrong today. I have a Portawattz 150W unit and it worked fine; once I made sure the DC plug was in tight. I paid a lot less than $100 for this unit so it is something to consider instead of the car/plane adapter (unless you fly).
