Toshiba SD-P2000 Portable DVD Player
Pros
Excellent picture quality, screen size, compact overall size, great for in car use
Cons
BUY A CASE AND YOU WON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS! This is a great player!!!
Recommended it?
Yes
The Bottom Line:
Buy this player, the picture quality alone is amazing, but it also has a large screen while not being bulky.
I just bought this Toshiba SD-P2000 player off of ebay and tested it out by popping Spiderman in. I felt like Tobey Maguire was going to jump out of the screen any minute.
To give you some background so you know where I am coming from, I also have an Aiwa XD-DW5. And I thought that was a great player until this one blew it out of the water. The XD-DW5 is still a great player, but this one is that much and much more.
Screen
The screen is an absolute work of art. I am not the geeky techie type but I assume this is due to the high number of pixels in the LCD as well as the Progressive Scan feature. I also like the fact that the movie takes up the entire 8.9 inch screen.
Picture Quality
Not only is the screen large, the picture quality is amazing. It is like watching a movie in Digital Projection. I don't know if anyone out there has seen a movie in Digital Projection, but if you have, you know what I'm talking about. In my opinion, it is on par with HDTV.
Battery life
Battery life is not a big issue with me because I plan on using it at home and in my car with the car adapter I purchased (also off of ebay for 10.00!!!). However according to other reviewers, 2-2.5 hours is expected from a fully charged battery. Although there is no low battery warning according to these same reviewers.
Sound/Speaker Quality/Audio
As far as the speakers go, I am not sure what people expect from a small player like this. The sound quality was just fine, not perfect, but good. And if that doesn't cut it for you you can get some walkman type portable speakers to hook up to it for movies on the road or the ever popular FM modulator for home/car use.
Size
This thing is amazingly thin and compact. Not a lot of wasted space here at all. It is pretty light too all of which make it an excellent (TRULY) PORTABLE player.
Manufacturers sometimes forget that these units are going to be taken on vacations, business trips, on long flights and car rides. All of these activities require luggage. The last thing you want is to have to lug around another heavy, bulky item that should be for entertainment purposes. Toshiba seems to have designed it with the above in mind and made it a functionally portable player.
This is a great player for those out there who want a large screen, compact size, great portability, excellent picture quality, good battery life, and great value. Who wouldn't want those things, right?
The only very minor issue is that the hinges do not seem like they could withstand heavy abuse. It should be fine with reasonable use. But this should not be a problem if you (and your kids) have learned to take care of their belongings. Oh yeah, buy a good protective padded case to avoid any mishaps! This player will treat you well especially if you take care of it.
