This the first DVD player we have ever bought. We selected this one because we had just purchased a Toshiba DLP High Definition TV and wanted the HDMI connection and the up-converting capabilities of this model. We don't have anything to compare it to but so far we are very pleased. We were limited to a few choices for the up-converting feature but liked the idea that this brand included the HDMI cable which others didn't. Prices often look good until you find out all the extra items that are not included these days.
In response to the other reviewers complaint about the blue lighting on the front of the player this can be dimmed or turned off by pressing set-up on the remote, selecting the category Rating and highlighting FL. Dimmer which gives you the choice of: Normal(on), Dim or Off.
