Toshiba SD-4980 DVD Player

Maybe I just got the bad apple but I had some real bad luck with this player. I just purchased a new 56 inch HD TV and needed a DVD player with a HDMI connections. I thought Toshiba was a far better brand than Phillips and I was not going to dish out over $1000.00 for the HD or Blue ray players being offered. So I went with this one. It worked great at first had all the right connections for my home theater system. It sounded great picture looked great. The blue light that shines in the front of the player I thought looked cool and when it was in the rack with the other home theater componets it looked good. But if you place it on top or below the TV it would be distracting. After about 6 months it just stopped reading DVD disks it would play CD's just fine but it kept telling me no disk when I put in a DVD. I called Toshiba customer service they said it needed a cleaning, I tried that nothing. Now I am in the process of returning it to Toshiba for a replacement. Toshiba has told me that they have stopped making this player and no longer have parts to repair it. That should tell you something there. They built it as a throw away. They also said they extended the return period to two years because of this to allow for people to return there players if needed.
