I bought this at the local "big box" electronic store about 2 weeks ago & I am very satisfied. It does work how it is supposed to & produces an excellent picture as a player or on things it has recorded. It does have a somewhat overly complicated manual, but they did at least split it into 3 parts so that the information you are looking for is easier to find. I had a no name brand dvd player before and I am really stunned at the quality difference in the playback of prerecorded DVD's. I did vacillate between this and the Panasonic, but I have no regrets. Great for time shifting your favorite shows. Just wish I had it last year so I could have recorded the whole season of Lost & Battlestar Galactica.
