Toshiba 32-inch 32AV500U: Great TV

Pros -Great price
-Good connectivity
-Fantastic picture (for 720p that is)
Cons -Bad port positions
-SDTV is horrible
-Colors need to be calibrated
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line: Recommended for digital TV subscribers and console gamers, stay away if SDTV user or looking for ease of access.
I was looking to buy a television about a year ago, and I looked real hard. Everything was either high-priced or was not available where I'm from. Finally, I decided to simply go to the nearest Future Shop and seeĀ what they had. I needed to choose between a Panasonic and a Sony; both were 700C$, and they had a good picture, both did not look too well from the front, and lacked connectivity. I was really leaning towards the Sony, when I caught a glimpse of another 32". The Toshiba near me was 650C$, and looked superb with its nice design, had an HDMI port, two component cable slots (R-B-G), and another standard cable slot (R-W-Y) on the side, as well as a few other ports. Just what I needed, and for 50$ less. It had good picture quality as well, which was nice for the price.

I brought it home and the colors looked a bit off; easily fixable with the help of an online color calibration guide. However, the HDMI port was way over on one side, while the component cables were on the other. I found this very disappointing and had to move some stuff around in order to get some things plugged. Also, standard television is horrible on the TV. If you don't have digital TV, however, there is no use in getting a flat panel TV, as it will probably be crummy anyways. Other than that, my Xbox 360 looked truly amazing in 720p HD, as well as my laptop when plugged into it via HDMI.

I'm very happy overall with this television, and will definitely be keeping it for a good period of time.
