Solid KVM Option

Pros Keyboard, mouse, monitor, and audio sharing. Cables included -- plus it works with wireless mouse/keyboard
Cons Monitor functionality doesn't work well between my computers, cables from four sides can be untidy
Recommended it? Yes
The Bottom Line:  Compact KVM USB switch that's easy to use, includes cables, provides audio support, and works with Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard. What more do you need?
One desktop, one laptop, and only one desk. Sharing a mouse and keyboard between the two was essential to my sanity.

The TRENDnet TK-209K two-port USB KVM Switch Kit was an almost ideal solution for me. It's small, designed to make connecting your peripherals almost idiot-proof, and provides the added convenience of sharing audio (both microphone and speakers).

Another bonus: The "special" cables are included. You'll still need your original cables to plug your monitor, mouse, keyboard, microphone, and speakers into the switch, but TRENDnet provides the cables you'll need to go from the switch to your computers.

This is a compact box, with cables attached from all four sides. I would have preferred all the cables connected on the rear of the unit for the sake of tidiness, but that would increase the size of the box. Four sides of cables makes the box a bit unsightly, but it's not a major issue. Plus, the layout clearly labels every input and output, so it's tough to actually make a mistake.

I had my switch ready to go in minutes. Setup was no problem at all. I had no interest in hot keys or special keystrokes to trigger my KVM -- the TK-209K makes it easy. There are two buttons on the top of the unit, each assigned to a particular computer. GREAT feature.

Most importantly, it works. And for me specifically, it works with my Logitch EX 100 wireless keyboard and mouse. Just remember, this is a USB switch, so be sure your keyboard and mouse are connected via USB, not PS/2.

I did have a problem with the monitor, though I don't think it's the fault of the switch. My laptop screen and desktop are set at different resolutions, and my Samsung monitor didn't support some of the resolutions I tried with my Toshiba laptop. I was able to get a picture, but I didn't like the results. I wound up disconnecting the VGA input, but still share my keyboard, mouse, and speakers. Again, this is probably not a KVM issue, but you could face a similar problem based on your existing hardware.

The TRENDnet TK-209K USB KVM Switch is reasonably priced, easy to setup and use, and does its job. Can't ask for much more.
