The Bottom Line:
If you have 2 computers, this will help you keep your desk neat and tidy.
When I built my second computer, I realized I needed a KVM switch as I didn't have the desk space for another monitor (let alone another keyboard and mouse). I bought a simple Linksys KVM switch to solve my problem. Since then, I realized that it didn't make sense to have 2 sets of speakers on my desk (and it was a royal pain to keep switching the plug between PCs). So, I started looking for a solution. I was hoping to find a simple manual audio switch, but I couldn't find one to fit my needs.I found the TK-208K KVM switch on sale and decided to give it a try. After using it for a couple of weeks now, this thing rocks.
Features:
- Support up to 2048 x 1536 VGA resolution.
- No software needed, so it is supported on all OSs
- Hot-Plug feature, add PC or remove the connected PC for maintenance without powering down the KVM Switch or other PC's.
- Auto-Scan Mode for monitoring PC's.
- Keyboard status restored when switching between PCs.
- LED display for easy status monitoring
- 2 x PS/2 ports for a keyboard and mouse
- 1 x VGA port for your monitor
- 1 x 3.5mm audio in/out jack
- 1 x 3.5mm microphone in/out jack
The device was a snap to setup, just plug in you peripherals and then plug the cable to your computers and you're good to go. It has 2 hard buttons to select between PCs as well as pre-programmed "Global Hot Keys" that allow you to switch all peripherals or any single peripheral (or any combination of peripherals). This is the feature I was looking for. With a global hot key you can, for example, switch just your keyboard, mouse and, video to the second computer while your speakers stay playing music on the first computer. The video is clean and I've noticed no problems on my 19" LCD screen. All-in-all a great buy for the money.
